Peak Luminosity-Spectral Lag Relation Caused by the Viewing Angle of the Collimated Gamma-Ray Bursts

چکیده
We compute the kinematical dependence of the peak luminosity, the pulse width and the spectral lag of the peak luminosity on the viewing angle θv of a jet. For appropriate model parameters we obtain the peak luminosity-spectral lag relation similar to the observed one including GRB980425. A bright (dim) peak with short (long) spectral lag corresponds to a jet with small (large) viewing angle. This suggests that the viewing angle of the jet might cause various relations in GRBs such as the peak luminosity-variability relation and the luminosity-width relation. Our model also suggests that X-ray rich GRBs (or X-ray flushes or Fast X-ray transients) are typical GRBs observed from large θv with large spectral lag and low variability. X-ray Flashes from Off-axis Gamma-Ray Bursts
Ioka and Nakamura (2001) proposed a simple jet model which is compatible with the peak luminosity-spectral lag relation, the peak luminosity-variability relation and various other relations in the Gamma-Ray Bursts. If the viewing angle is much larger than the collimation angle of the jet in the model by Ioka and Nakamura, for appropriate model parameters we obtain the observational characterist...
متن کاملSpectral Lags and the Lag-Luminosity Relation: An Investigation with Swift BAT Gamma-ray Bursts
Spectral lag, the time difference between the arrival of high-energy and low energy photons, is a common feature in Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs). Norris et al. 2000 reported a correlation between the spectral lag and the isotropic peak luminosity of GRBs based on a limited sample. More recently, a number of authors have provided further support for this correlation using arbitrary energy bands of va...
متن کاملConnection between Energy-dependent Lags and Peak Luminosity in Gamma-ray Bursts
We suggest a connection between the pulse paradigm at gamma-ray energies and the recently demonstrated luminosity distribution in gamma-ray bursts: The spectral evolution timescale of pulse structures is anticorrelated with peak luminosity, and with quantities which might be expected to reflect the bulk relativistic Lorentz factor, such as spectral hardness ratio. We establish this relationship...
متن کاملThe Lag–Luminosity Relation in the GRB Source–Frame: An Investigation with Swift BAT Bursts
Spectral lag, which is defined as the difference in time of arrival of high and low energy photons, is a common feature in Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs). Previous investigations have shown a correlation between this lag and the isotropic peak luminosity for long duration bursts. However, most of the previous investigations used lags extracted in the observer-frame only. In this work (based on a sampl...
متن کاملExplaining the Gamma Ray Burst Lag/luminosity and Variability/luminosity Relations
Two different luminosity indicators have been recently proposed for Gamma Ray Bursts that use the lag between light curve peaks with hard and soft photons as well as the variability (’spikiness’) of the burst light curve. Schaefer, Deng, & Band have proven that both of these luminosity indicators are valid by finding a lag/variability relation for 112 BATSE bursts. Here, I provide simple and ge...
